Silver adamant on launch game venue
TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers have said they are not amused with Super League of Malawi’s (Sulom) silence over their protest against fixing their opening TNM Super League home match against FCB Nyasa bullets at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
The Bankers argue that as a home team, that match should be played at their backyard Silver Stadium in Area 47, which is a skip and jump away from BNS.

In their follow-up protest letter, the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored outfit says they are disappointed with Sulom’s failure to address their concern.
Reads the letter: “Despite our explicit concerns and clear communication, the fixture has again been scheduled at Bingu National Stadium, disregarding Silver Strikers Football Club’s rightful home venue, Silver Stadium.
“For a league with 240 matches, it is alarming that the only fixture set for BNS involves Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
“This raises serious questions about the decision-making process behind the scheduling.”
Silver further state that last season, the same fixture was subject to “an unprofessional back-and-forth exchange, leading to a last-minute change to Silver Stadium”.
It further says: “This disorganised approach significantly impacted revenue generation and match-day logistics, ultimately harming the game’s interests.
“It is unacceptable that the same errors are being repeated this year. Furthermore, Sulom’s actions continue to foster tension among supporters of both teams. Given these clubs’ passionate followings, such inconsistency in scheduling only serves to inflame emotions rather than foster a peaceful and enjoyable footballing environment. It is imperative that SULOM act responsibly to pacify these tensions and ensure that the fixture decisions are made with the best interests of Malawian football in mind.
“We demand an immediate response and correction to the scheduling of our opening fixture. Silver Strikers Football Club remains committed to the growth of Malawian football, but we will not accept unfair decisions, lack of transparency, or continued disregard for our rightful concerns.”
In an interview yesterday, Silver chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said they are disappointed that Sulom has not responded to its two protest letters.
Sulom vice-president Ronald Chiwaula, speaking in a separate interview, defended the decision to settle for BNS as the venue for the launch game.
He said: “This is not just any other fixture, it is the official launch game of the 2025 season, as such we had to be flexible and accommodate the interest of the sponsors in line with their commercial activities.
“We will be engaging Silver Strikers on the matter and we hope to reach an understanding in the end.
“In any event, Silver play their Airtel Top 8 home matches at BNS and they have never complained. They have also confirmed participation in the 2025/26 edition of the Confederation of African Football [CAF] Champions League, which can only be played at Bingu National stadium.
“So, if they carefully reflect on this, they will realize that they stand to gain playing at Bingu Stadium instead of being too naïve and afraid.”
